“When Thank You is Not Enough”
What do I mean by that title? Let me explain. Last week I was having a reflexology treatment. Hattie, our little daughter was on my belly; because after 18 years without children, she now goes everywhere with me. My reflexologist said, “Hattie looks just like your father Red when she smiles.” That statement made my heart skip a beat. Hattie resembles her father, Monty, which make me happy; but it is fascinating how she can at times favor my family. My father is 80 years old and my husband’s father is 84. To see the joy in their eyes when Hattie enters a room is priceless. Usually after you have a baby you appreciate your parents more. Now that time has passed, we appreciate what BRAVELLE® and REPRONEX® have done for us. You see, the last time we tried IVF we were given a 20% chance because of our age. We had tried several infertility treatments over an 8-year period and traveled to 3 different states to see infertility specialists. For awhile we were working with an adoption agency, but my husband wanted to try IVF one more time. IVF had worked in the past on our second attempt. I became pregnant but had to have a D and C after 10 weeks with no heartbeat. I couldn’t believe my husband would want to try again, but we did. During the cycle, Dr. Dorkus came to us to discuss how the follicles were developing. She suggested we stop the cycle and try again later. We explained to her this was our last attempt at IVF due to our age and the expense. My husband Monty thought everything looked good compared to out other IVF cycles. Monty asked if we could increase the medications and the results were great. At the end of the cycle we had 2 fantastic fertilized eggs. All it takes is 1 and that’s what we got: a beautiful, healthy little girl, Hattie Elizabeth, named after my great grandmother. We are thanking you because you made it possible. I always brought candy to each visit during the IVF treatments for everyone in the office. During my pregnancy, I made homemade goodies for each prenatal appointment. We made special plaques for the doctors who brought Hattie into this world. How can I say thank you: for a little girl with blue eyes like her daddy, a smile like her grandfather, for her giggles when she throws all her food on the floor, the sleepless nights we just lay watching her sleep, or listening only to “Baby Einstein” while in the car. How can we just say thank you when you helped us to have a miracle? Thank you is not enough. |
